National Wildlife Refuges
The United States Fish & Wildlife Service have designated the following areas as National Wildlife Refuges:
- Great White Heron National Wildlife Refuge
- Key West National Wildlife Refuge
- Crocodile Lake National Wildlife Refuge
- National Key Deer Refuge
The refuge designation gives protection to the nesting grounds and feeding areas of sea birds, Key deer and the American Crocodile. By protecting these species, the refuges are protecting the health of Florida Bay and therefore are helping to protect the coral reef.
