Alligator Reef
The USS Alligator has an exciting, dramatic history as a pirate hunter off the shores of Florida. It originated from Boston, launched in the early 1800's and sunk on the reef only five years after the launch date. That reef is now named Alligator Reef, and lies in 8 to 40 foot depths. There's a 136-foot light tower there to mark the reef, which contains excellent coral marine life.
